WORK PARTIES

Volunteers from the society and interested members of the public gather together and form work parties to help keep the miles of tracks maintained. They work closely with the Port Hills Ranger Service and together the tracks are cleared, widened, smoothed out for the thousands of feet that cross them. They also carry out native revegetaion and assist with weed management, vegetation clearance and signage. Essentially it is a partnership with the Christchurch City Council and the results have many benefits for the wider community.

  Eastenders

  There are four groups;

The Eastenders, a group of about 45 volunteers tend the tracks and reserves from Godley Head to Scott Reserve. They meet twice a month each Monday morning.

The Ohinetahi work party (about 10 volunteers) looks after the large Society Reserve above Governors Bay and meet every Tuesday between 9am and 3pm.

The Weekend (5 volunteers and growing) work party meets once a month on Saturday afternoon and looks after the area between the Tors and the Sign of the Kiwi.

New volunteers are warmly welcomed, if not encouraged. Join a group of "keen walkers" and "keen talkers", it's a great opportunity to leave the city and enjoy the refreshing outdoors with magnificent views and in the company of folk who relish the fresh air and camaraderie. Tools can be supplied.
